1. I already have friends and/or a woman’s group. Why should I join a WISE Circle?
Perhaps you don’t need to join or create a Circle. But if you want to see your friends more frequently, enlarge your community for additional support through transitions as you become an elder, or engage in more creative activities…….A Circle might be a great place to start. You might want to incorporate the structure of the Circle into your current group, and then expand the activities and/or meetings in ways that are unique to your groups’ history or interests. Or you might want to start a Circle with some of your friends and just socialize as usual with the others!
2. Does the format of the Circles and the suggested agendas detract from the individual group’s creativity?
A key value of the Circles is connection. The structure or format of the Circles allows individuals to embrace the shared values and process that the Circles stand for. Within each Circle is an opportunity for individual and unique expression of these values by the membership. Expression of each unique group can be in the activities planned, individual relationships and shared history. The shared values and basic structure of the Circles allows for connection of all Circles. The structure of the Circles assists new groups with stabilization, minimizing potential conflicts and supporting healthy process.
3. Do WISE Circles discriminate against men?
Absolutely not! We feel strongly that men would greatly benefit from the formation of groups that embrace these values. However, men and women process things differently. In order to avoid conflicts regarding these differences, we prefer the Circles to be gender specific. A group that would reflect men’s needs for connection as well as a group for younger women is in the design process.
4. What if one person dominates the Circle?
The structure of rotating guides helps to eliminate issues of control. Again, frequently conflicts provide opportunities for growth in communication and being more aware of one’s needs. Also, check in time is limited. The Guide or Co-guide assists with maintaining the safe space by reminding individuals of sharing time with others.
5. I recently moved. I don’t yet have friends to help start a Circle. What should I do?
Have you met like-minded women at work? Is there a local natural foods store, yoga studio, public library, coffee house, bookstore, etc., with a bulletin board? If so, post the Circle interest flier, add your contact information and see what happens. If you strike out, email HeartHill for additional guidance.
6. What does HeartHill hope to accomplish with these WISE Circles?
Ah, that’s simple. Peace, respect and community with the vast richness of others as we serve our planet and increase our awareness of spirit! As we strive toward wholeness we are increasing peace for all. Thanks for asking!
